Breaking Free: Overcoming Habitual Sin

               Intentional Sin

Intentional sin has been a struggle in my life. When I would commit intentional sin out of habit, that's when I felt the worst, I was condemned the most, I got into slumps, and at times wished my life would end. When you commit intentional sin you are choosing to separate yourself from God. This can come from a delusion that; that sin is better than what God has for you. You might think it makes you feel better, or it will make you happy but that is a Lie. When you let that delusion come into your mind you ultimately make that sin stronger making you feel as if you need to do it because you’ve created a habit.

How To Stop Habitual/Intentional Sin

These habits have triggers, find out what triggers you. Whether it’s things you think about, things you see or possess. The best way you can get away from it is to run to Jesus. The word says “Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts”. Go straight to prayer, and pick up your bible and separate yourself from whatever is stimulating that desire to sin.

Permanently Get Rid of the Sin

The key to permanently getting rid of the sin is replacing the sin with a good habit. When dead grass shows up on a golf course they don’t just leave it there because if they did no one would want to use the course. So they stick and pin in it and replace the dead grass with green grass. Jesus is the grass keeper and that dead grass is the bad habit. If you continue to choose sin, why would God use you? So you have to let Jesus replace that bad habit with a good one.

Renew Your Mind

We always hear people talking about renewing your mind to get better or to develop yourself. The Bible even says “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” But what does renewing your mind mean? It means to change how you think. In order for you to do that you must filter your thoughts. If you want to think purely you must think about pure things and consume pure things.

Why You Need To Renew Your Mind

There’s this saying that goes “Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits.” -Frank Outlaw. What you think about the most shapes your reality. If You want to stop habitual sin and be holy you must consume holy things, surround yourself with holy people, and focus on being holy.

Stay Two Steps Ahead

When I say stay two steps ahead I mean stay alert. When on the path to freedom from habitual sin there’s pits and deception that can make you fall. The word says “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” If you continue to give into sin the devil will devour you making it harder for you to escape.

Brothers and sisters I ask that you stand firm with our Lord. You may be going through hard times but keep moving forward, keep faith and pray. May God bless you all.
