Have Patience & Contentment

In this new age, we are so obsessed with others' progress and what's going on in their lives, we become discontent with the gifts God has given us. That's the issue with social media: we're always seeing the good parts of someone else's life—the fast cars, millions of dollars, big houses, and pretty women—that we forget to be grateful for what we have.

A lot of you reading this are living better than most of the world, especially if you're in a first world country. If you were to look at your life and compare it to the people in the third world countries, your life would be equivalent to a king's.

I want you to ask yourself this question: Why is the western world so depressed and stressed out? It's because you look towards the future so much that you forget about the moment you're in. You compare yourself to all these people that don't even know you that you become discontent with your situation. The word says, "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)

Some of you pray for riches and a less stressful life but are so impatient you don't finish the food on your plate that God has given you. You spend money when you know you need to save, you sit around instead of working, and you wonder why you're broke. The word says, "The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied." (Proverbs 13:4) We are so quick to complain about our situation and blame God or other people that we forget to look at ourselves.

All of these can be solved with patience, contentment, and diligently seeking opportunity. When I say patience, I don't mean sit and wait; I mean work diligently and wait for the opportunity to show itself. When the disciples were waiting to receive the Holy Spirit, they weren't sitting there doing nothing; they were constantly in prayer, patiently waiting to receive the Holy Spirit.

What does it mean to be content? It means to accept and be happy with the current situation, no matter how good or bad. What is the power in contentment? Contentment frees you from anxiety, it gives you inner peace, you obtain more gratitude, and it strengthens your faith. When you are being content, you are accepting what God has given you. That doesn't mean you can't ask for more; it just means you are grateful for what you have. The apostle Paul himself said he learned how to be content in whatever circumstances, that includes physical and mental hardships.

Reader, I ask you to be content in all situations. Learn to trust in the Lord so much that you are okay even in the worst times. Ask God to help you develop that Psalm 23:4 mentality.

May God be with you,

Amen.

  1. Amen! Yes 🖐🏻 at times it can be difficult to be content with what we have. I know as a parent of a teenager they don't understand why we don't have things others have. My father taught me a very important lesson when I was young and it stuck with me. " I once was upset because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet".$ I tell my kids this all theime and I pray they understand it the way I did eventually.
